Flightline Safety 

This week’s Barnstormer Bite features Bob DiMeo, someone I’ve gotten to know over the years at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. 2025 marked his 38th year volunteering on the flight line there.

If you’ve ever been to AirVenture or any airshow, you’ve seen volunteers like Bob everywhere. On the flight line, behind the ropes, guiding airplanes, answering questions, keeping things moving, and helping keep everyone safe. Most of the magic at these shows runs on people who show up year after year simply because they love aviation.

This one’s for the people in the vests who make the show happen.

The NextGEN Eagles

This week’s Barnstormer Bite features Patty Wagstaff, a name that hardly needs an introduction in the aerobatic world. A three-time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion and one of the most respected performers on the airshow circuit, Patty has spent decades setting the bar for precision and control in the box. For many women in aviation, she’s long been proof that skill and confidence belong in every cockpit.

In 2025, she made her final performance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, retiring from airshow flying at age 74. It marked the close of an extraordinary chapter in aviation, and this week’s episode is a small, fun nod to a pilot whose impact goes far beyond the smoke trail.

The Mooney ANOMALY

This Barnstormer Bite happened a little sideways and honestly, those are usually my favorite ones.

I was on the hunt for Liam and the Mooney Anomaly at AirVenture and had just barely missed him, but that detour landed me with Taylor instead. We ended up hanging out, taking pictures of my nails and the girls’ nails (painted to match the plane, obviously), swapping stickers, and then doing what I do best… talking pizza for a bit.

About halfway through, my camera kid got antsy and shook us right out of frame, which honestly just shows how real these moments are. It’s one of those reminders of why fly-ins are special. Airplanes bring people together, conversations happen fast, and somehow pizza always finds its way into the mix. That’s the good stuff.
